Notater:

To the relevant person or persons,
My great grandfather and -mother were married in Denmark on July 8th 1877, and a remark in the church records say:
Duplikat af Borgerbrev fra New York 21/12-75 som Borger i de forenede Stater (Duplicate of Citizenship [Denization?] from New York, dated December 21st 1875). There are no owner, identification- or case number mentioned.
My great grandfather: Anders Pedersen, born August 24th 1839 in Denmark
My great grandmother: Charlotte Louise (born Høyer), born June 12th 1855 in Denmark

I wonder if it would be possible to find out to whom this document was issued, when he, she or both first came to The United States, and the purpose of such citizenship/denization. He was a taylor by profession, and she was a clothing sower. Any information at all would be highly appreciated, and I will of course pay for your services if nececssary.

Many kind regards
Mr. Keld Pedersen, Copenhagen, Denmark

Svar:

Dear Keld, Thank you for your recent email in which you asked about our naturalization holdings. The National Archives at New York City is the repository for federal documents considered to be permanently valuable. Federal agencies and U.S. Courts in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands have created the records we hold.

The National Archives is the repository for naturalization records from the Federal District and Circuit Courts. The indexes for the Federal, State and Local Courts for New York City were searched for the years 1792 to 1906. The closest naturalization record in our custody is for an Anders Pedersen who naturalized on September 3, 1875 in the Common Pleas Court of New York County. It can be identified as follows:

Anders Pedersen, Common Pleas Court, New York County, Bundle #446, Record #200

Before I provide you with ordering information, you should know that the pre-1906 naturalization records from the local NYC courts are available on Ancestry.com. In addition, Ancestry.com also has digitized versions of our passenger arrival microfilm. If you can obtain an account, you can access our holdings this way. If you choose to order a copy of Anders Pedersen’s naturalization records, you can visit our website at www.archives.gov for further information. Once again, thank you for your interest in the National Archives at New York City.

Sincerely,
Kevin Reilly
